PROJECT 4: Event & Entertainment

 

SITUATION

Social barriers exist between males and females with and a lack of support for women's activities.

 

HOW MIGHT WE interact, engage and connect young people in Aceh with fun and entertaining events?

 

SOLUTION

To build a women's centre where women could participate in desired activities that were usually male dominated. Ideally the surrounding streets on this urban plan would be lined with coffee shops.

This centre would be private in view surrounded by a 1600mm semi transparent screen that allows sound and shadow through in order to attract external interest.

With the understanding that this space has been developed for women, the intention would be to schedule, one to two days per week where men can enter to participate in the activities with the women. This would mean they are entering into the women's context, opposing Aceh's usual social fabric. In this way it is hoped this new space would foster a growing respect and equality not only for men and women, but for the interests of the individual, whether that be typically masculine or feminine in nature.
